This morning my brain-tunes shuffled itself into a 90s TV commercials… it was like woke up with the symphonies’ tag line “I LOVE THE BLUE OF INDONESIA…” reverberated through every pores of my body… Even though I never meant to re-advertised the particular product, but it’s too bad that I only found the 30 second version of the commercial on youtube.
Down to my last package… I need more Koffie Aroma, please (Taken with Instagram at New City Residence Uemachidai)
Aceh Tsunami Museum. I never aware that there was one until I read it in GARUDA Magazine. Browsing through magazine make me wish that I have a doraemon’s dokodemo door, so I could pop up to see Banda Aceh’s new endeavours in a blink of an eye.
The 2,500 m2 four-storey structure that first open its door on early March 2009, serves as a tribute to the 230,000 victims of one of the most devastating natural disasters in recent history - which names are to be inscribed on the wall of museum’s internal chambers. In addition to the memorial, the museum also designed to be an “escape hill” for locals in event of another tsunami. The wall are adorned with images of people performing traditional dance of the Saman or “Thousand Hands” that represent a symbolic gesture to the strength, discipline and religious beliefs of the Acehnese people.
From the series of Jan Dekker’s photos I could only imagine how majestic this structure is. But to learn that this magnificent museum designed by Ridwan Kamil, Indonesia owned architect, makes me proud to be an Indonesian.
Happy Independence Day, Indonesia. I surely honored to be one.
